Rare Campaign Desk of Exotic Amboyna and Inlay, probably, c.1820-40. Desk is made of amboyna offset against ebonised mahogany with stringing. The aboyna wood is absolutely fabulous, and is a very thick veneer, which has aged beautifully over time, developing an agreeable mellow tone. The top drawer has a baized slope that can be set at 3 angles or rest against the edge of the top, this baized piece of wood that can be adjusted is missing. It would not be hard to put another piece of wood there.You can see in the samll picture how it looked. This piece has very few shrinkage cracks for its age. The inlay wood work is outstanding, the beautiful shell on each door and the inlay shell one the center of the top and corners. The Campaign brass hardware on this piece is outstanding, as fine as I have ever seen. The inlay on the corners and the ends of the desk are beautiful too.
