Rare Yellow Glazed Stoneware Money Bank c1840, Standing Deer
Believed to be Brampton
Here is a wonderful rare early yellow glazed stoneware money box or bank dating to around 1840 or possibly earlier. I purchased this years ago from a very knowledgeable collector who believed it to be Brampton pottery. It has been in my personal collection all this time and although I have never come across a piece just like it, my further research indicates that he seems to have been on the right track. In any event, a rare piece. It measures 6" in height and 4 1/2" by 3 3/4" at the base. Condition is perfect noting only some minor glaze flakes on the underside. Also noted on the underside are two incised initials which are either WT or LM, depending on how you read them. These are partially glazed and appear to be original to the piece.
